10 reasons to ditch box colour right now
Category : Uncategorized
We’ve all gone the route of using box colour at some stage for various reasons, but if you ever needed an excuse to make an appointment at Rock Paper Scissor for a professional colour – here are TEN great ones.
- One size does not fit all
If you don’t believe in one size fits all pants, why do you think box colour is okay? Think about it, in a salon a stylist will study your hair before deciding what volume developer to use, when you buy a box there’s no control over that. That’s why while a certain blond box colour works for your bestie, it looks awful on you. You are different. Your hair is different. There is no one size fits all solution to hair colour.
2. Hair colour should be customised for each individual
A stylist will take several factors in consideration when mixing colours for your hair, because every head of hair is different. That’s why your colour should be customised for you and you alone. Here’s a list of the factors a stylist will think about when mixing the right colour for you.
- Natural level and underlying pigment
- Skin tone
- How porous your hair is
- Previous artificial pigments
- Percentage of grey hair
3. The difference between semi and permanent colour
There is almost no difference between these two when you use a box, while in a salon the difference is huge. Temporary colour should only stain the outer layer of your hair and last a week or two at most. No box colour can really guarantee a total wash out, so be careful.
4. Nothing compares to professional application
You can’t see what you can’t see. Which means when you are colouring from a box or bottle you are bound to cause banding – that is going over the same old colour again and again which causes dark spots, while you miss others completely. Application has to be precise in order to minimise damage.
5. Your hair WILL feel like straw
No question about it. When everything from developer levels in the mix and application is wrong, your hair will become damaged and dry out. Most people think this is a normal side effect of colouring your hair, it isn’t. When you have a professional colour done, you’ll soon feel the difference.
- There’s a good chance you’ll need a haircut afterwards
With the more box colour you use the the more porous your hair will become, which means that the only solution will be to cut your hair. Sad but true.
- Cap highlights are an accident waiting to happen
Cap highlights are a bit old school and doing it at home could mean that you end up with leopard spots or bleeding! Not pretty and hard to fix.
- You are not going to look like the celeb in the TV ad
Do you really think Eva Longoria used a box colour? Enough said. Don’t fall for the advertising.
- It’s not a saving in the long run
Think about the damage it’s doing to your hair. Not only that, it’s basically a ticking time bomb for something to go wrong, and then you’ll find yourself trying to find a stylist to do corrective colour – and that comes at a hefty price.
- Deciding to switch won’t be easy
Unfortunately, if you’ve been using colour from a box for years, it’s going to take more than one or two visits to the salon to get your hair back into shape. So don’t expect a miracle, but soon enough, you’ll see what an awesome difference a professional colour can make.
